Owlcrate Unboxing May 2018

It’s that time of the month again!  I’m talking about Owlcrate, of course!! If you are unfamiliar with Owlcrate, it is a monthly YA (young adult) book subscription box. Each box has a theme and comes with all sort of bookish goodies and a new YA fiction release. I highly recommend this box if you love YA fiction and LOVE getting presents in the mail! If this is enough to convince you to subscribe to Owlcrate, please click this link and sign up!  The boxes are around $35 including shipping and you can cancel at any time.  If you are interested, I suggest signing up ASAP, because the boxes usually sell out before the end of the month and then you end up on a wait list, which is NOT fun.

SPOILER WARNING: If you are an Owlcrate subscriber, you know how horrible spoilers are, so if you have not opened your May box yet, DO NOT READ ANY FURTHER!

So, let’s get started!

This is the first view you have of your Owlcrate. It’s always packaged so nicely! The card on top usually has a beautiful print of the month’s theme. For May, it is FIGHT LIKE A GIRL. On the back of the card are the evil spoilers, which tell you exactly what’s in the box and the companies that created them. I ALWAYS put this card aside because I like to be surprised!

The first item I pull out of the box is a gorgeous wooden wall hanging. I have never gotten something like this from Owlcrate and that’s what I love about them. They add such unique items to their boxes. This wall hanging was created exclusively for Owlcrate by Evie Bookish and it is inspired by Feyre from the A Court of Thorns and Roses series by Sarah J. Maas. Evie Bookish has tons of other beautiful bookish items in her shop you can find here.

bathbomb  I knew the second I opened the box that there had to be either a bath bomb or a candle inside! This bath bomb, made by Whipped Up Wonderful, smells amazing, and is inspired by the character Zelie in Children of Blood and Bone by Tomi Adeyemi.  This item is also exclusive to Owlcrate. You won’t find it anywhere else!!

Now, for my FAVORITE item in the box!  Being a library employee, I was thrilled to see this pin, because the quote is very true. Libraries are more important than ever, and I can’t wait to wear this at work! This pin was created, again, exclusively for Owlcrate by the shop, Out of Print. Please check out their website! They have a ton of other adorable bookish items and each purchase helps to fund literacy programs and book donations to communities in need.

This is another cute pin included in this month’s box. It is related to this month’s book, which I will reveal below. The pins that Owlcrate sends in their boxes are so high quality, they will last for years. This one is almost like a bronze or pewter type metal, and they are great for starting up bookish conversations!

Ta-da!!!! There is not one, but TWO books in this month’s box!!!  The first one is Catching Stars by Cayla Keenan, about a witch named Jayin. The cover is exclusive for Owlcrate.

The second book is Sky in the Deep by Adrienne Young. As with all Owlcrate books, the monthly book is signed by the author and includes a letter to the readers.

This month’s books are very much in the fantasy genre and take place in another world. Both books have strong female protagonists which appropriately fit with this month’s theme, FIGHT LIKE A GIRL.

This is my first Owlcrate box in about a year, and they are better than ever. Even though the box may be expensive for some, the items they include are worth so much more because you won’t find them anywhere else. They are one of a kind items created by some pretty cool companies. So, if you are interested, here is my link again for subscribing to Owlcrate. I promise you will NOT be disappointed.
