Warm weather is here! And for me, that means porch reading, or porching, as I like to call it.
Books that I usually pick for porch reading are simple, feel-good books that make you think of warm weather, beaches, flowers, friendships….basically everything we love about spring and summer. So grab a glass of sweet tea and keep reading!
The first book is the first in a long series of books about a group of women who meet at a Seattle yarn shop for a knitting class. They are all very different, but yet they come together to form a beautiful friendship that includes a lot of laughter and a few tears along the way.
Debbie Macomber is one of my most favorite authors. I have read dozens of her books, and while they are lighthearted and fun, they also tackle difficult subjects that affect many women. It is so easy to relate to her characters, and though these are quick reads, they make a lasting impact on the reader. Her books have inspired many movies and TV shows as well. You can find a list of the other books in this series as well as her other titles here.
This next author is also one of my favorite authors. She has written many books for women as well as historical fiction.
This book tells the story of a friendship between two women that spans three decades. If you grew up in the 70s, 80s, or 90s, you will get a kick out of the historical references throughout the book. This is the first book I read by Kristin Hannah, and one that has stayed with me. There’s also a sequel for this book called, “Fly Away”. For more information on this book and Kristin’s other books, visit her site here.
This next title is an awesome porching read, and it also fits into one of my favorite genres, which is magical realism. Magical realism, the way I explain it, is when magic is present in the modern day, normal world, but is hidden and not really known about except for a select few, sort of like the Harry Potter books. It’s become a very popular genre, which I intend to devote another post to in the future.
Not only are her stories awesome, but the covers of Sarah Addison Allen’s books are so beautiful!! Garden Spells is the first in a series about the Waverley family, who possess a very special power, which lurks in the garden behind their seemingly normal white picket fence.
I hope you guys enjoy these reads, and please let me know what you thought of them. I love recommendations, so if you have a favorite porching read, let me know in the comment section!
